Their Story

A Short Ballad

Where did they meet? What was their first date? How did they get to the point where they now relate? Well, calm your nerves, and take off your shoes. I’ll tell you the story of One made from Two.

The year 2016, the last week of September … or the first week of October … I can’t quite remember. Sick of the cold and ready for fun, Chris headed to Miami to soak up the sun. He made up his mind and left a deposit. South Beach would do. Two bedrooms, two closets. To get approval, more time would be needed. So Chris made a layover in Jacksonville city.

“Stay as long as you need,” said Mel to his line brother. Darius will be here and picked up by his mother. Accompanied by work, Chris was so unaware. In walked a petite Navy member, with honey bronzed hair. She walked in sharp corners and gave a stern handshake. The message was clear that he makes no mistake.

A day or so later … maybe a week … a party was thrown but here is the tea. A cup full of drink was left in the fridge. No one quite knows whose the cup is. One says, “It’s mine.” The other says theirs. The truth of the matter neither much cared. What’s done is done … the cup had been shared. Her lips had touched where his were once there.

A curious Alpha knew just what to do. He devised a plan and carried it through. Chris made up the story that he needed to shop. The item a camera, the Exchange was the spot. LaShay was the key, so her presence was needed. Feeling bad for the gypsy she kindly conceited. The convos were light, the connection was real, and some insight was shared, “LaShay cooks a mean meal.“ Two little birds told Chris, and it was no dupe, “You really must try Auntie Shay’s 15 Bean Soup.”

That soup was so good, it should be no surprise the events that occurred from the next plan devised. An idea so complex and extraordinary … LaShay’s birthday invite had an itinerary. She had to leave work no later than noon. She couldn’t wear makeup. Not even perfume. Biscottis for lunch. A massage for their soul. Then DIY coasters, of course, Black and Old Gold. The finale was seafood for dinner, Orsay. On the drive home, Chris had just one thing to say.

Some already know, and others will guess, but if you can not, you should be their guest. Pull Chris aside or even LaShay … and ask them, “What happened after that day?” The story goes on and so much to share. Their wedding is soon. They hope you’ll be there!

You are such a beautiful couple. I can't wait to see how the creator is going to bless your union. You both deserve the best that life has to offer-it's no surprise then, that you found each other. May your union be full of love, laughter, kindness, understanding, compassion, peace, success and upward mobility, and growth (both personally and as a unit).

All my love to you on your special day,

Devin Nikki Thomas
